To kick off the holiday season, Harimau Kendo Club organised their very first Christmas Kendo Keiko! Held on 12th December, 2021, it was a morning of serious fun and games!
Lots of chuckles to be had as the class was divided into two groups, the "Where's Peter" Team (Taisho, Nurlin Sensei) and the "RaRa" Team (Taisho, Peter Sensei)/Wong Sensei) to battle it out for the 2021 Xmas Harimau Trophy.
Games were made up from what has been taught in class throughout the months.
Starting with 'Santa Rush', this game was a race between the teams using fast ashi sabaki to weave around the 'snow mountain' obstacle!
After which is followed by 'Xmas Egg Delivery', this game was a race to deliver the eggs safely to the next player in the team and it required holding the shinai at the correct kensen as to not have the egg holder slide down or off as they sped through the course.
Finally, it was the 'Nutcracker Pinata'! Played by the beginners in the team, they were blind folded, spun around and then using kendo terms of Migi , Mae , Hidari and Ato, they had to find their way to the belly of the thieving Nutcracker, who had eaten all the Christmas candies and chocolates. It was death by shinai for the Nutcracker as the final Do cut slashed open his belly of goodies! What a finale!
The winner of the 2021 Christmas Keiko was won by the RED Team this year!
After class, the party carried on with everyone adjourning for Christmas brunch at the clubhouse.
A very special THANK YOU to the following people for making this event success:
Nurlin Sensei, Peter Sensei, Wai Kit Sensei, Abul, Po Ai and Swee.
